Personal Statement

My favorite quote is my guiding philosophy. It has helped to shape my high standards. When working on a small or a large project, you should set your sights to do it right the first time and do it so well you are willing to sign your name to it.

I also believe in the power of a team. Yes, an organization must have a strong visionary leader, but an organization is only as strong as its team. I agree with Sally Helgesen in her book The Web of Inclusion: “By emphasizing process as well as structure, by establishing new ways of approaching problems, of thinking, of connecting people, of giving them information and motivating them, a true web also helps to transform the organization of which it is a part.” I see technology as a way of facilitating and improving communication between users as well as a powerful and influential way to get your message across.

Experience

I have built a comprehensive skill set that allows me to offer a balance of management, marketing and project management/operations experience.

  • Experienced Project Manager with Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Managed, trained and led groups in both corporate and nonprofit organizations ranging from 6-2,000 employees.
  • As a nonprofit Executive Director, built a multidimensional donor system and a stronger volunteer base.
  • More than 20 years of traditional and cause marketing experience.
  • Utilizing Lean Six Sigma skills and coordinated stakeholders in 14 counties covering North and South Carolina to participate in a one-time event that will focus on projected housing and jobs through 2050.
  • Experience in training and public speaking to diverse audiences. Brought for-profit principles to a nonprofit organization. This included a collaborative style of leadership, standardization of systems and reporting functions.
  • Created and presented a unique 110% Customer Service training program designed to standardize the retail experience for 18 shopping centers across the country.
  • Coordinated training program for over 9,000 employees to roll out new electronic cash system in 4 states and 8 shopping centers.
  • Experienced public speaker and trainer.
  • Project Manager for ULI RealityCheck2050 which launched the second stage of 7.9 million dollar HUD grant. This event is a joint project with the Centrolina Council of Government, Catawba Council of Government and Urban Land Institute. Download Participant Guide
  • Created systems and procedure and processes to record weekly Cost of Goods Sold report for an eight store network.
  • Developed an onboarding plan for all new employees. This multifaceted plan involves video, hands on training as well as testing to achieve positive results and employees ready to give guests expectational customer service.
  • Project managed the development and coordination of thirteen different 2016 Camp Guides. This multiphase process is one of the most important financial resources for the organization. Coordinated and communicated with the administration, BOS, IT programming branches as well as the thirteen branches. Project met timeline goals.
  • Brand development and management experience. Worked with organizations and businesses to develop integrated marketing plans including logos, websites, marketing collateral, videos and social media development.
  • Created a cause marketing campaign which inspired US Airway's CEO, Doug Parker and the US Airways Do Crew to volunteer and cook dinner at our organization. Mr. Parker presented us with a $10,000 donation. This event led to extensive television, newspaper and social media coverage.
  • Coordinated a grand opening for a premier regional destination retail mall celebrating the first of its kind giftcard system.
  • Increased citywide exposure of organization using social media, television, video, speaking engagements, magazine and newspaper articles, thus increasing volunteers, donations and name recognition.
  • Managed TV, radio and billboard campaigns to roll out new shopping center.

  • Created new and diverse fundraisers for the Hospitality House of Charlotte (HHoC): Casino Night; Employee Volunteer Program; a yearly Luncheon; Corporate Partnership Program; and the Joe Mann Memorial golf tournament.
  • Worked with Leon Levine Foundation to create a $50,000 matching campaign to help fund a new HHoC Guest Assistance Program.
  • Created an Employee Volunteer Program and a Corporate Partnership Program to engage new businesses for HHoC. These programs brought in US Airways, BB&T, University of Phoenix, and Bank of America among others.
  • Started social media campaign for HHoC which utilized Facebook and Twitter. This campaign helped us gain new volunteers, exposure in the community to the mission and helped us win a $50,000 technology grant to update office and computer equipment.
  • A sample of recent public relations and corporate partnership work - Hospitality House of Charlotte Video and Piedmont Natural Gas Week of Giving.
